Where impact comes from: pressure, flow, distance

Impact is about momentum, not pressure alone.

Momentum flux

Jet impact is roughly proportional to mass flow × velocity. Velocity rises with the square root of pressure, so doubling pressure does not double impact.

A common misconception: raising pressure costs pump and piping without proportional gain. Matching flow and pattern at moderate pressure is often the better trade.

Distance attenuates

The jet spreads and entrains air after leaving the nozzle, so impact falls with distance. Nozzle-to-strip distance is a design parameter: too far loses punch, too close suffers splash and damage.

Coverage is area; impact is local

Flat-spray impact is not uniform across the width (higher in the centre). Consider both peak impact and effective coverage width — judging by one alone gives either clean centres with edge residue, or the reverse.
